It has been a long time in the works, but Gigspanner’s riveting new album ‘Layers of Ages’ sees the band blowing the dust from a collection of well-worn traditional tunes and songs to reveal authentic moments of startling originality and great beauty.

Last year, Perrine Nouvier created a video for my song 'From a Lullaby Kiss', and because so many people have told me how much they love to watch and listen to it on Youtube, we knew that we had to ask Perrine to create a film for one of the songs on Gigspanner's new album.
We sent her the tracks and gave her a free hand to choose a song. We knew that she would create something wonderful whatever song she decided to illustrate.
Over the past year or so, we couldn't help noticing the whimsical photographic style of Elly Lucas, who without doubt has become the photographer of choice for a huge amount of artists on the folk scene. Her photos usually have some sort of fantasy, almost dreamlike element to them.
Her work is featured on a host of albums right now, and we are happy that ours is now amongst that number.
The photographs were taken at The Old Chapel, Peckham.
"A glorious musical tour de force...What makes Gigspanner unique is the variety of musical colours on their palette. What makes them brilliant is how they blend them without ever muddying the landscape"
"Gigspanner has taken traditional tunes as a starting point and rearranged, orchestrated and improvised around them to create fascinating new works....they move effortlessly and seamlessly through myriad styles and textures....the result is well worth the wait, leaving no doubt that Gigspanner’s increasingly impressive sound is like no other"
